Yours Clothing Review – Ivory & Black Skirt

I call this my @sugercoatit look because it's an ankle boot & skirt combo! Wearing: @yoursclothinguk textured stripe skirt, @citychiconline beaded cardigan, @boohooofficial zip bodysuit and @paylessshoesau ankle boots.

Last week I was very lucky to receive a package of goodies to review from Yours Clothing. Confession - I’ve never actually shopped at Yours Clothing before. It wasnt one of those well known brands I fell back on for reliable fashion like ASOS or Dorothy Perkins. And to be quite frank, I’m usually scared off by international postage (theirs is pretty reasonable at £10) and dealing with the alternate season thing.

But when I opened the package of clothing last Monday I knew I had hit the jackpot! One of my favourite pieces being this ivory & black textured stripe pleat skirt ($49 AUD). Its made of a soft textured material that is thick enough to give a structured look and soft enough for the pleats to sit flatteringly on someone with a tummy bulge like me. The wide band around the waist and retro vibe of this skirt make it a super easy item to wear.

Now, if you've ever read my advertising info page you'll know that I have a rule stating that if I don't like a product, I simply wont write about it. That rule is to ensure that I cannot be coerced or made to feel obligated into writing misleading reviews when a company sends me their product. Because this was my first haul from Yours Clothing I was expecting to find a couple things in my order that just didn’t sit right or I didn’t like the feel of. I was pleasantly surprised to find that wasn't the case here. I ordered all items in a size 18 which worked across the board, although I could have easily gone down a size with this skirt due to my hourglass shape & the soft, stretchy material.

My life has mostly been about trying to get my bra to stay under my shirt. Wearing Yours Clothing UK textured stripe skirt, City Chic beaded cardigan, Boohoo Plus zip front bodysuit and Payless shoes.

To make this outfit even more winter friendly I would add a pair of stockings and knee high boots, then layer with a bright coloured coat. Luckily when I took these pictures it was a beautifully warm winters day down in the southern highlands and ankle boots (from Payless – buy them here) were enough for me to stay warm. I paired my skirt with a Boohoo bodysuit and a City Chic cardigan I got on sale a few weeks ago.

The ivory & black textured stripe pleat skirt is available in sizes 14 – 28 and I found the sizes on par with mainstream sizing (its not vanity sizing). I found the size charts to be accurate and you can toggle to AU sizing & currency on their website.

Summary:

Fit - This item ran slightly large on me, mostly due to my smaller waist. Due to the stretchy material you could size down comfortably without any problems. The length being just below the knee means it is a perfect length for my 5'4" stature.

Feel - This skirt is made from a polyester blend and feel soft (although textured) to the touch. The fabric does not scratch or pull. The skirt is a nice weight and felt like it would be reasonably secure on a windy day.

Style - I adore a retro styled skirt, so I really loved the cut of this one. It is quite flattering, especially on women who share my body type (hour glass with a noticeable lower belly bulge). The flare sits beautifully and it is the right amount of 'poof' for me in a skirt - sensible enough for work, flirty enough for the weekend.

Value - at $49 AUD its good value for money. If this skirt was available in City Chic or Target I believe it would be the same price or much higher considering the quality. I would buy this skirt with my own money.
