Last week we had an Aussie Curves Sydney Meet Up at The Victoria Room for some lady-like high tea. I really enjoy the meet ups as I don’t have many bigger friends and I find it hard for my friends to relate to some of my plus size problems. I think that is part of the reason Aussie Curves filled such a hole for me – I finally have some people who understand when I say “I’m having a bad day and I just want to wear baggy comfortable clothing and ignore the world”. It doesn’t mean I need advice on losing weight or that I need a pep talk, it just means I need someone to say “I know that feeling , I find [insert brand] to be great at making comfortable and stylish clothing that doesn’t cling too much”. It’s that non-judgemental attitude that is solely focused on the ‘sisterhood’ and supporting you at whatever part of your journey that you’re up to.
Whilst there are over 800 people in the Aussie Curves Facebook group it generally ends up being that same group of people that turn up to events. We open it up to everyone but not every person is ready for a real life meet up with other Curvettes (although I do have plans to meet as many as I possibly can!). It’s always great to see the familiar faces of Jo (icurvy), Elise (yELLE Styling) and Wendy (A Big Girl Now) – plus fantastic to see some new faces (I was seriously coveting Pip’s dress on the day!).
What I wore: Dorothy Perkins Eden Jeggings in Teal // Black Jumper (brand unknown) // Minnetonka Thunderbird II Moccasins in White.
I had a lot of fun, the atmosphere was fantastic at The Victoria Room – the food was delicious & the tea free flowing. The room is filled with beautiful lounges and arm chairs all upholstered in fantastically rich blue fabrics. There was a trapeze swing high above our heads on the ceilings so I would be interested to see what happens at night time! (I’m hoping its strippers hahaha). The wait service was fantastic and the bartenders/ladies who sort out payments were all super friendly and well groomed. For us it was a great experience. I will definitely be back there for high tea, and I am considering having my family ‘hens party’ there as it’s a great place to take my mum & grandmothers.
The basic high tea was $45 which was more than enough food & tea for one person. In fact we had a bunch of left overs that they placed in white boxes tied with red ribbon. Dale certainly enjoyed the salmon sandwiches I brought home that afternoon!
I’m already looking forward to the next meet up - quite a few of the ladies & I will be heading down to Melbourne for The Curvy Couture Roadshow (more on that to come!) which should be pretty exciting. Thanks to all the ladies who made the trek out to Darlinghurst for the afternoon & to the Aussie Curves girls for their constant support & community
